Hungering for God’s Word

Sometimes people think the Bible is mostly medicine to be taken in small doses when you feel threatened, discouraged or desperate. Well, the Bible can heal your wounds and brokenness, but the Bible is more than medicine. It is food.

God told Ezekiel to “eat the scroll” of God’s Word. When he did, the Prophet said, “it was in my mouth as sweet as honey” (Ezekiel. 2:8-3:3). The Bible is spiritual food.

Reading the Bible nourishes us even when we don’t expect it to. Think of it this way. You probably eat three meals a day but can’t remember what you had for lunch yesterday! Yet the food you ate nourished you whether you remember it or not. In a similar way the Bible nourishes your inner spiritual life through daily reading.

“How blessed you are

when you've worked up a good appetite for God.

He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.”
